Hearing Loss Support

When you have hearing loss there is so much to learn.   Luckily there are many websites that provide access to valuable information and support.  Below is a list of some of my favorites listed alphabetically.

American Disabilities Act While the ADA is a large document addressing all forms of disability, the link I included here specifically relates to hearing loss.

Association of Late-Deafened Adults. This is a national organization for people who have lost most of their hearing.  Their focus is on support through friendship.  They have chapters in almost every state.  Anyone can join.  They put out a quarterly newsletter.

Better Hearing Institute This website is full of information on hearing loss and deafness.  Its mission is  education.

CaptionFish– This website shows you where all the foreign subtitled and captioned movies are in your area.

Collaborative for Communication Access Via Captioning (CCAC)– This group is working towards communication access through education and advocacy.

Harris Communications– This is a great place to buy assistive listening devices (ALD’s)  for home and work, to help make your life easier.

Hearing Loss Association of America– This national organization main purpose is to spread information about hearing loss issues, and to educate the hard of hearing about the many options available out there.  Advocating for your own rights is empowering.  They have chapters in every state.  Anyone can become a member.  They put out a monthly magazine.

Hearing Planet Buying hearing aids?  This site shows comparison charts of features and customer satisfaction of all major hearing aid brands.

HearinglossWeb This website is full of information on the latest developments in technology and access.

Meneires.org People who suffer with Meniere’s disease may experience their own set of problems, in addition to hearing loss. This is a great website to connect with other people who share similar concerns.

National Association of the Deaf.  This is not just for deaf people, but for hard-of-hearing too.  The NAD has an abundance of resources and information.

SayWhatClub This is a web based support network of people with hearing loss.   In addition to the regular lists, they have special interest lists of people with cochlear implants and people who have menieres disease.  They have yearly conventions where they meet and offer educational workshops.
